Tibetan/Uighur news

3-7-2019       Internment camps like those built in East Turkestan for the Uyghur population are now spreading into Tibet.  New satellites images show the recent construction of several prison-like camps in Chinese occupied Tibet.  The name used by the Chinese Communist Party to describe those prisons is even more ridiculous than the “Reeducation Camps” used to describe the ones in East Turkestan, as the CCP calls them “Buddhist Temples”....
Historical data has shown that, from 1949 when the CCP began to invade Tibet to the end of the Cultural Revolution in 1979, the CCP’s rule caused a total of 1.2 million deaths in Tibet (including the surrounding provinces), accounting for nearly 20 percent of the entire Tibetan population of 6 million.  The destruction of more than 6,000 monasteries caused irreparable damage to Tibetan culture.  https://unpo.org/article/21403

3-5-2019      Bipartisan members of Congress slammed the Trump administration for not punishing China over its unprecedented crackdown on the Uighur Muslim minority in Xinjiang, western China.  "It appears that the Administration has taken no meaningful action", they said in a joint letter.  Chinese authorities were recently caught using US technology to take DNA From millions of Uighurs under the guise of free health tests.  The lawmakers want President Donald Trump's administration to impose sanctions on China and its use of US technology in Xinjiang.  https://www.businessinsider.com/xinjiang-4-congressmen-slam-trump-admin-for-ignoring-china-oppression-2019-3

3-5-2019       “thanks to my Han face I could start my trip as a typical, carefree tourist,” she wrote.  What chilled her to the bone was an encounter with a Han cop curious about what she was doing in this disturbed region.  When she gushed to him about the local architecture, he replied: “Do you really think the architecture is pretty?  These are Uyghur-style buildings.  We are against that.”  As they chatted, he grew suspicious, even doubting that she was a student in spite of having seen her ID card.  Back in her hostel room the girl was full of “terror and guilt”.  How did the Uighurs cope with the “atmosphere of control” all the time, she wondered.     https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/uighurs-in-china-should-we-believe-what-we-see/cid/1686191
