11-8-20 Former President George W. Bush congratulated President-elect Joe Biden on his victory, stating Sunday that “this election was fundamentally fair” and “its outcome is clear,” becoming one of the most prominent members of the Republican Party to reject President Trump’s last ditch efforts to deny his loss through baseless claims about voter fraud. In the statement Bush said he spoke with Biden and “extended my warm congratulations and thanked him for the patriotic message he delivered last night.” Bush called Biden a “good man” who has “won his opportunity to lead and unify our country.”
The former president swatted away baseless claims about the election’s integrity but acknowledged Trump had the “right” to “request recounts and pursue legal challenges; the American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld and its outcome is clear,” he said.
