each counteracting thought consumes much surrounding energy

-Veterans Day

Shasta from northwest

69.  Man departs and returns, each time for selfish reasons--this "great inner work" reminds one of the sputtering of a wick.  The skill in hiding the true cause of this moving backward and forward might better be used to polish the floor; but blisters on the soles may require painful lancing.       -M:  Agni Yoga 1929

281.  where two are united in thought the result is the force of three.  But it should not be forgotten that each counteracting thought consumes much surrounding energy; that is why it is so rarely possible to observe a successful unity.  Truly a single horse can hold back the entire caravan and defeat a successful consummation.  Again will be woven a fabric of the best energies, but humanity will prodigally squander the ordained attainments.  It is so easy to arrive at an understanding of the value of unified energies.
                                                            -Morya:  Aum 1936

171.  Pure will can be cultivated in all environments, and finer energy can be preserved in all circumstances.  Each person, small or great, is equally endowed with freewill.  Everyone has this highest gift and may either accept it or, in ignorance, prefer to squander the entrusted treasure.  Everyone has sufficient finer energy for fearless flight into the subtle world but must first of all overcome the fear of the unknown and learn something about the subtle world.       -M:  Supermundane 1938
