Dr. Qiu, Dr. Quay, and Mojiang henipa virus

1-28-20   A third CBC story in August reported that the Winnipeg lab had sent two viruses — Ebola and Henipah — to Beijing on March 31.  It didn’t connect virologist Qiu (a friend of Shi Zhengli), specifically, to that shipment, but it referred to the investigation, saying “while the Public Health Agency of Canada says all federal policies were followed, there are questions about whether that shipment is part of an ongoing RCMP investigation.”  But Cpl. Caroline Duval, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told us by email “There is no connection between the outbreak in China and any RCMP investigation.”  https://www.factcheck.org/2020/01/coronavirus-wasnt-sent-by-spy-from-canada/

7-2-21  The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said it sent the 15 strains of viruses on a commercial flight to China "for the purpose of scientific research" in March, 2019.  RCMP) are now investigating how two Chinese military scientists managed to secure access to the lab in Canada - a Level-4 facility set up to handle some of the world's most dangerous viruses.

The Globe and Mail named one of the scientists as Feihu Yan, from the People's Liberation Army's Academy of Military Medical Sciences, who co-authored a paper with Dr Qiu.

Dr Qiu, who arrived in Canada in 1996, and Cheng fled back to China after they were fired from the lab.

Dr Qiu had made at least five trips to China in 2017 and 2018, including one to train scientists and technicians at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, according to documents obtained by CBC News….

Christian Leuprecht, a security expert and professor at the Royal Military College and Queen's University, told CBC News: "It appears that what you might well call Chinese agents infiltrated one of the highest prized national security elements when it comes to biosecurity and biodefence."  Canada's National Microbiology Lab send two vials each of 15 strains of world’s deadliest viruses….

Dr. Qiu worked her way up to become head of the Vaccine Development and Antiviral Therapies section in the lab's special pathogens programme….The other virus shipped to Wuhan, Henipah, is classified as "Category C" as it can be engineered for mass dissemination. https://www.the-sun.com/news/3202525/worlds-deadliest-viruses-sent-wuhan-leak-lab-scientists-canada/

6-29-21   bats could hosting all manner of other viruses - such as the Hendra, Nipah and Lyssa infections - and notes these “bugs” could spread to other animals and mutate to infect humans.

"It is not unreasonable to conclude that bats are a natural mixing vessel for the creation of novel CoVs and that it is only a matter of time before some of them cross species barriers into terrestrial mammal and human populations," reads Dr Shi's paper.

And it is this research paper which appears to be one of the early indications of the type of work that was going on in Wuhan amid allegations that Dr Shi's lab may have been the source of Covid….

Dr Steven Quay, chief executive of pharmaceutical company Atossa Therapeutics, told the Washington DC-based Hudson Institute that advances in virus and vaccine research had “opened the floodgates where you can have a bioweapon in the morning and have a vaccine in the afternoon”.  https://www.the-sun.com/news/3181739/china-batwoman-frankenvirus-hiv-lab-leak/
