migrant wave into EU--overview

7-24-18  The EU Commission proposed a pilot phase to be launched as quickly as possible and said a “controlled centre” taking in migrants could count on hundreds of personnel ranging from interpreters to asylum experts, all paid for by the EU (up to $7000 per migrant that is permitted to settle in).
The set-up would allow for quick screening of arriving migrants, sending back those who do not qualify for asylum, the Commission said.  It would also prevent migrants from skirting registration rules and heading straight to the most sought-after destinations, including Germany and Sweden.  https://af.reuters.com/article/commoditiesNews/idAFL5N1UK3JU

Joy, a young Nigerian woman, was standing in the street outside the sprawling, overcrowded Cara di Mineo reception centre for asylum seekers in central Sicily, waiting for someone to pick her up when I met her. It was late summer 2016, and the weather was still hot.  She said she was 18, but looked much younger.  She was wearing a faded denim jacket over a crisp white T-shirt and tight jeans, and six or seven strings of colourful beads were wrapped around her neck. A gold chain hung from her left wrist, a gift from her mother.  More than 80% of women brought to Europe from Nigeria are unknowingly “sponsored” by sex traffickers who have paid for their journey, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).  The rest will have paid the smugglers to get them to Europe, but once they get there, will be unlikely to escape the sex-trafficking rings.https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/feb/01/migrants-more-profitable-than-drugs-how-mafia-infiltrated-italy-asylum-system

6-30-18  MÁLAGA, Spain — Spain’s new Socialist government has waded straight into Europe’s migration crisis — out of both choice and necessity.
Shortly after taking office in early June, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez won plaudits from aid groups for welcoming to Spain 630 migrants from the Aquarius, a rescue ship that had been turned away by Italy and Malta. But at home, Mr. Sánchez is under pressure to stem a sudden influx of migrants crossing from Morocco on inflatable boats.
The number of unauthorized migrants arriving in Europe from Africa, the Middle East and Asia has fallen sharply since 2016 — except in Spain, where it has soared…..The increased flow has raised concerns in Spain that Morocco may have deliberately relaxed surveillance along its beaches facing Spain.

8-18-17    Left-wing scientists from the University of Bonn complained that Europeans are more altruistic to other Europeans and less welcoming of migrants, but they believe they can change this behaviour by drugging the population with the ‘love hormone’ Oxytocin.
The researchers suggested that the drug could be administered to subjects in an environment where the peer-group exerts social pressure on the individual to be more welcoming towards strangers.    https://www.defendevropa.org/2017/migrants/drug-europeans-accept-migrants/

7-23-18   Did you hear the one about the Florida man playing music in his garage? Police responded to a noise complaint and killed him — shooting through his closed garage door. A federal jury last month awarded the family $4 for its pain and suffering.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said the shooter “was placed in a very difficult situation, and like so many fellow law enforcement officers must do every day, he made the best decision he could for the safety of his partner, himself and the public given the circumstances he faced.”  https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jul/23/jurrell-casey-says-hell-continue-his-protest/

7-24-18    "We need to quit talking about Russia," Phillips said. "There's a real war going on—it's a cyber war like never before, where they're invading the United States every day trying to take over the United States in terms of our science and technology. If they're not stealing it they're imitating it, or they're trying to get it through other means."    https://freebeacon.com/national-security/experts-china-waging-war-u-s/
