1)  Russia may have agreed to finally resolve the Caspian Sea’s status now, after three decades of objections, not because of continued Western pressure but because of rising trade competition from China’s “One Belt One Road” policy, according to Shota Utiashvili, a senior fellow at the Rondeli Foundation for Strategic and International Studies in Georgia.
Trade in and out of Central Asia had been diverted not to Russia but to Iran, with Chinese backing, he said.  And some Central Asian energy exports have not gone to Russia but instead east to China because of difficulties exporting west over the Caspian Sea, he added….
2)  Turkmenistan, frustrated in its effort to build a trans-Caspian gas pipeline, has also started work on a pipeline east through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, known as the TAPI pipeline.  The Afghan government has said it could help resolve the war through economic development.
The pipeline passes through Taliban-controlled territory in southern Afghanistan, but it is supported by both the United States and the insurgents as positive for the country’s future.  https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/12/world/europe/caspian-sea-russia-iran.html

9-20-18   Pakistani officials confirmed Thursday that Saudi Arabia will make heavy investments in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a central pillar of China's international Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of infrastructure projects.
“Saudi Arabia is the first country that we have invited to become a third partner in CPEC," said Pakistani minister of information Fawad Chaudhry at a press conference in Islamabad. "Saudi Arabia is expected to bring massive direct investments to the project."

Pakistani media pegged the value of the Saudi assistance package at $8 billion.   https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/saudi-arabia-may-invest-billions-in-pakistani-port-of-gwadar

10-5-18  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the $5bn (£3.8bn) deal in Delhi on Friday.  The S-400 is one of the most sophisticated surface-to-air defence systems in the world.  It has a range of 400km (248 miles) and can shoot down up to 80 targets simultaneously, aiming two missiles at each one.
India's neighbour China also has the same system - the two countries fought a war in 1962 and routinely see skirmishes on their border.  https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-45757556
