study of human trafficking

1)    3-16-2018   The majority of EU human trafficking victims originate from Bulgaria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania, while most of the victims from non-EU countries come from Nigeria, China, Albania, Vietnam and Morocco….
As more migrants seek illegal entry into Europe they fall prey to criminal networks of people smugglers.  Thanks to a growing awareness of these inhumane practices, human rights advocates are now calling loudly for action.  The EU policy framework to eradicate this shameful crime calls for cooperative action in concert with member states, EU agencies, third countries, civil society and the private sector….
Italy is one of the main destination countries for trafficked men, women and children.  Since 2015 the country has been coping with an overwhelming flow of migrants, a significant portion of whom are vulnerable to trafficking.  The number of potentially trafficked victims in Italy has increased by 600% in recent years.  A survey by the UN’s International Organization on Migration (IOM) revealed that the majority of migrants arriving to Italian shores are exploited by criminal groups.  In 2016 nearly all migrant Nigerian women and children arriving to Italy were trafficked, making Italy the main corridor for smuggling girls from Nigeria into Europe….
France is both a place of destination and a transit country for trafficked migrants and has an estimated 18,000 female victims being trafficked for sex within its borders.  NGOs have reported an increase of Nigerian women and girls forced into sexual exploitation in France, particularly girls under 15, some as young as 11.   https://www.southeusummit.com/europe/human-trafficking-europe/

2)     10-17-2017  About 21 million people are believed to be victims of forced labor.   Many are also victims of trafficking, the majority for sexual exploitation.  Women and girls comprise more that 70% of the total estimated victims in the world.  http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/headlines/society/20171012STO85932/human-trafficking-nearly-16-000-victims-in-the-eu

3)   Violent conflict is happening in more countries today than in the last 30 years, according to the report.  The crises have caused millions of refugees and displaced persons to flee their homes.  The journey makes them vulnerable to traffickers offering jobs, help or travel arrangements that turn out to be fraudulent, leading instead to forced labor, sexual exploitation or other types of trafficking.
At greatest risk are children traveling alone, often after having been separated from families and communities in the course of the conflict.  Boys are most often recruited for military units as soldiers, bodyguards or laborers helping armed groups move from camp to camp.  UNICEF has also documented the use of children as young as 8 in suicide attacks.
A growing number of girls are victimized, generally for sexual exploitation or housework.  According to the report, in 2017, 23 percent of trafficking victims were girls below the age of 18, compared to 21 percent in 2014 and 10 percent in 2004.
Forced marriage--girls and women seized as non-consensual sex partners and for domestic work--is prevalent in areas of armed conflict.  In Sierra Leone, for example, armed groups sought out and coerced females between the ages of 13 and 22 to be their wives, according to the country's 2016 Truth and Reconciliation Commission report. …
The majority of victims are trafficked within their own countries or regions.  But among reported cases, 1 in 10 victims are transported to another part of the world.  This "destination" trafficking, transporting people from one part of the world to another, usually from less economically developed areas to wealthier countries.

The complex arrangements necessary for long-distance trafficking reflect the involvement of larger organizations, says Angela Me, chief of the research and trend team at UNODC…  Many routes originate in sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia, going from there to the Middle East, or Western and Southern Europe….
In the Netherlands Multiple Systems Estimation found that there are four to five times as many victims as those detected, many of whom are trafficked underage Dutch girls--a finding that led, in turn, to policy discussions about launching awareness programs in Dutch schools.     https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2019/01/14/684414187/human-trafficking-reaches-horrific-new-heights-declares-u-n-report

4)   A Romanian mafia (perhaps as middleman for Russian mafias) is spread across Europe comprised of groups specializing in sex trafficking, exploitation and panhandling.  To draw women into the trade Romanian traffickers use what is called the “loverboy method.”  They begin a relationship with vulnerable women and, using psychological pressure, manipulate them into taking up sex work in order to maintain the relationship.
But these criminal methods are not the root cause of this phenomenon.  The cause lies in the patriarchal mentality of Romanian society and the implicit assumptions of government officials who don’t see sex trafficking as a social problem requiring serious intervention.  They see it as a personal choice by “depraved” women or as the result of a certain ethnic group’s predisposition towards prostitution….
Sex workers from Romania seem to make up the majority in Germany, Britain and Italy….Romanians also make the largest group (40%) of individuals under investigation for human trafficking in Britain in recent years….Experts and studies have proven that Romania still has a huge problem with the export of organized crime.  Some international reports even attribute most human trafficking in Europe to Romanian crime syndicates….Victims rarely testify in court because there is no real protection system in place: there are no shelters, they don’t receive medical care and psychological support and their names are published in court records after the trials.  https://newsmavens.com/news/smoke-signals/1785/romanian-women-are-most-at-risk-for-sex-trafficking

5)  As dusk sets over Berlin, scores of scantily clothed women and girls pour out on the Kurfurstenstrasse and nearby streets--the German capital’s most notorious sex trade neighbourhood.
Many of these women, local residents say, come from Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.  Some are obviously underage….“When talking about sex trafficking, Romania is seen as one of the trend setters in Europe, next to Albania,” Silvia Martis Tabusca, an international law professor specializing in migration at the Romanian American University, told BIRN.  https://balkaninsight.com/2018/07/26/how-romania-became-europe-s-sex-trafficking-hub-07-25-2018/

6)  1-11-2015  The trafficking of men, women and children from their home countries abroad for purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labor (human trafficking is 2nd only to drug trafficking) is growing at an alarming rate.  Some estimates put the number of women and children alone transported from their homes and sold into slavery throughout the world at roughly one million per year, with the total number of all persons enslaved at any given time as high as 30 million.
At least four factors are facilitating the growth of this phenomenon:  the globalization of the economy, the increased demand for personal services in the developed world, the continuing rise in unemployment, and the rapid and unregulated enticement and movement of human capital via the Internet.
It is a sad commentary on the state of the global economy at the end of the twentieth century that human beings are being traded as quickly as commodities, stocks and bonds without adequate legal and humanitarian protection.  This phenomenon could easily be referred to as “the commodification of persons”.
Unfortunately this rapidly proliferating global trend is gaining even greater traction in the Russian Federation.  Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, ending seventy years of centralized political and economic controls and at least fifty years of a comfortable social contract that guaranteed employment and social security for all, unemployment in Russia has hit the entire population extremely hard.  Half of Russian adults are out of work and only a quarter of those employed are getting paid on a regular basis, according to some estimates.
The population that is hardest hit by unemployment and poverty is women and the children they support.…  One report documented the extent to which the trafficking of Slavic women to Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland had overtaken the traditional predominant mixture of African, South American and Asian women.  The underworld has enticed numerous Slavic and Baltic women from Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as women from the former East Bloc countries of Hungary, Poland, Romania and Czechoslovakia.
These women are seen as exotic and desirable in the “developed” industrial countries of Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.  According to some reports there are more than 5,000 Russian prostitutes in Thailand, recruited in the Russian Far East for job opportunities there….
The rise in human trafficking is disturbing especially because as women are increasingly trafficked abroad, the Russian Federation is losing valuable human capital.  Many of the Russian women exported and enslaved tend to be well educated and are answering advertisements for positions in the service sectors for which they are frequently overqualified.  This appears somewhat counter-intuitive, because most of the international development literature has shown education as a means of liberating women from enslavement and abuse.  If anything, education should enhance their status in society….Many victims are assured they will meet rich men in the big city eager for marriage.
Victims are provided transportation and travel papers but are quickly stripped of identification once they arrive at their destination.  Once the women realize they have been tricked into what some call modern-day slavery they often fight or attempt to escape.  Mafia thugs subdue the women with violence and isolation.
Narcotics such as heroin and methamphetamine are given to the women routinely to get them hooked and dependent on the gang members to feed their habit.  In typical mafia fashion the mob photographs the sex slaves with clients and threatens to send the photographs to their family members if they step out of line….
Russia is one of those unfortunate countries that has the receptive environment in which organized crime thrives.  Organized crime is deeply rooted in the 400-year history of Russia’s peculiar administrative bureaucracy, but it was especially shaped into its current form during the seven decades of Soviet hegemony that ended in 1991.  This ancestry helps to explain the pervasiveness of organized crime in today’s Russia and its close merger with the political system.  Organized crime in Russia is an institutionalized part of the political and economic environment.  It cannot therefore be fully understood without first understanding its place in the context of the Russian political and economic system….
The historical symbiosis with the state makes Russian organized crime virtually an inalienable part of the state.  As this has continued into the present some would say it has become an engine of the state that works at all levels of the Russian government.
Contemporary Russian organized crime grew out of the Soviet “nomenklatura” system (the government’s organizational structure and high-level officials) in which some individual “apparatchiks” (government bureaucrats) developed mutually beneficial personal relationships with the thieves’ world.
The top of the pyramid of organized crime during the Soviet period was made up of the Communist Party and state officials who abused their positions of power and authority. Economic activities ranged across a spectrum of markets— white, gray, black and criminal . These markets were roughly defined by whether the goods and services being provided were legal, legal but regulated, or illegal, and by whether the system for providing them was likewise legal, legal but regulated, or illegal.  The criminals operated on the illegal end of this spectrum.
Tribute gained from black markets and criminal activities was passed up a three-tiered pyramid to the nomenklatura, and the nomenklatura itself (some 1.5 million people) had a vast internal system of rewards and punishments.  The giant state apparatus thus not only allowed criminal activity but encouraged, facilitated and protected it, because the apparatus itself benefited from crime.
These sorts of relationships provided the original nexus between organized crime and the government.  From these beginnings organized crime in Russia evolved to its present ambiguous position of being both in direct collaboration with the state and, at the same time, in conflict with it.  https://coalitionagainsttrafficking.wordpress.com/2015/01/11/the-russian-mob-and-transnational-human-trafficking/

7)  Is it not true that He who can create the stars and put them in their appointed places, He who can bring forth a living soul, spread abroad the canopy of space and direct the velocity of time, is certainly able to offer a better way of life to His creation than that being paraded before the youth as the darkening concepts of the Egyptian fleshpots, the pleasures of table and person and an endless panorama of war, poverty, struggle, loneliness and frustration of humanity?

8)   Now it is not God who struggles but only the consciousness that is out of the way of alignment with God….See then that in service-as the mistress of life and the mistress of the energies of life--there is the way for God-mastery of the four lower bodies, there is the way for balancing of karma, there is the way for fulfillment of one’s duty to become God, and there is the absorption of the self into the higher Self….
I come then, I come to bid you welcome to the path of initiation for the new year.  And I am sustaining my dictation and my fiery forcefield within your midst for the very, very sacred purpose of the transfer of my Self to yourself….
I give a special dispensation to all of you and to souls of light in the planetary body who will ratify the flame of freedom in the coming six-month period and who will ratify that flame on behalf of the Mother and her children.  Call to me, and I will increase your portion daily.  Call to me, and I will increase your strength and your light and your love.  Call to me, and we will complete the cycle of victory….You then who are Our students at inner planes in the Retreats and those of you who have attended Summit University, to you I give this assignment.  It is a very real assignment…
Will you take each of the releases on each of the seven rays, the release of Alpha and of Omega through the archangels (in Vials of the Seven Last Plagues), and will you make for yourselves a notebook listing then those conditions that are pointed out by these emissaries of God that are the reason for the coming of the judgment--in other words, mankind’s misuses and misqualifications of the light of the seven rays?
Then will you watch?  Keeping watch on the wall of the Lord, will you watch the human consciousness, watch all that transpires in America and in every nation and add to the list those conditions manifesting on Earth this day which are also a perversion of the seven rays, a perversion that has not been specifically listed by the archangels and archeiai?…I will also tell you in advance that I am not the only one who will be watching to see how you complete this request.  The Holy Kumaras, the chohans, the archangels and the Elohim, the Great Divine Director will also be watching
