2-20-19    The abundance of insects globally is on the decline and 40% of species are threatened with extinction.  While some wild bee populations are doing well, others have experienced precipitous declines in recent years.  The rusty-patched bumble bee, for example, has declined 91% in two decades. Managed honey-bee populations are also in distress, with yearly colony losses well above twice the rate considered normal.  Insecticide use is among the mix of factors thought to be causing the declines.  https://qz.com/1554733/epa-allows-use-of-sulfoxaflor-pesticide-harmful-to-bees/

2019     Last month, Ségolène Royal, the French Minister of Ecology, appeared on television to ask that "all mayors remove pesticides in parks and schools", following the appearance of scientific doubts about the safety of these substances….

State officials found over 500,000 lbs of hazardous pesticides used within ¼ mile of California schools, putting more than 500,000 children in harm's way.  Similar to the France study many of the pesticides used near California schools are known to cause cancer and brain and nervous system damage. https://www.smartcitiesdive.com/ex/sustainablecitiescollective/should-cities-be-banning-herbicides-pesticides-going-organic/248611/
