II, xi, 1. Christ taught compassion, yet trampled is the Law of love. Gotama, called Buddha, besought courage and energy, yet his followers surrendered to laziness. Confucius taught about an orderly system of government, yet his followers have succumbed to bribery and corruption.
III, i, 5. I do not like to talk about reward for labor, but the remuneration will not be delayed. I speak of the joy of labor; the cooperative system is the sole salvation.
III, vi, 15. What external condition is indispensable for quality of labor? Light; only light makes labor productive and useful. The butterfly can fly until its rainbow pollen is exhausted. Man has the same rainbow force which absorbs the power of the light by means of photoplasm; the different plasms are intermediaries between the visible and the invisible. Photoplasm, being an emanation of the nervous system, forms a rainbow pollen which absorbs rays of light and conveys them into the nerve channels.

90. Whoever does not love the clarity of crystals will not reach us. Unrepeatable purity means perfection of form. One may show a crystal to a child, and the child will grasp the perfection of it. Indeed the structure of the crystals of the community will yield perfection of form.
244. Observe, the system of exposition is followed not in monotony but in the spiral of diverse conditions of one aspiration.
259. One may inquire how to name the method of the Teaching. It may be called the method of opening of the ways. Consider next the opening of the centers. Inner feeling must be prompt as to how carefully one should safeguard individuality. Least suitable of all is the system of the usual lectures.

15. Only (deep harmonious) rest can help the nervous system to overcome the dangerous enemy that can call forth the most diverse irritations and painful contractions of the organism. He who is afflicted with imperil must repeat "How beautiful everything is!" And he will be right because the flow of evolution follows immutable law--it is beautiful. The more refined the nervous system the more painful is the deposit of imperil. This same poison by the addition of one ingredient may contribute to the decomposition of matter.
34. Each thought deposits its sediments upon the walls of the channels of the nervous system. The more perfect the striving the more phosphorescent the sediments. The only place sufficiently protected for that fuel is the solar plexus which gradually imbibes the sediments from the auxiliary channels. Sometimes such an absorption can be so vigorous as to cause star-shaped painful sensations. Then the Teacher must apply a cooling ray which aids in drawing the sediments from the extremities to the center. All this is a process of the expansion of consciousness.
37. Answer only when you see that your answer can be understood; often a questioner is not able to grasp your answer. Then it is necessary to find a consonant chord before sending your thought in a new direction. It is an error to believe that a current that cuts across thought is less dangerous than a knife severing an artery. You must not intercept the questioner's thought but must infuse new blood of life by nourishing his nervous system. Each answering word must be given not as a nail in a coffin but as a physician's ray.
41. It is a mistake to wait for the stars to be right; the work of the serpent of the solar plexus flows independently. But a special sensitivity to atmospheric conditions accompanies this inner work; the density of the surrounding atmosphere complicates the work of the nervous system, therefore calmness is needed as a remedial condition.
42. One should distinguish three groups of medicines--life-givers, preservers and restorers. Let us leave for our enemies the fourth group--the destroyers. Let us turn our attention to the life-givers because they act first of all upon the nervous system. The nerve centers and secretions of the glands indicate the future development of medicine. Through these domains humanity will discover the finest energy which for simplification we still call spirit. The discovery of the emanations of this energy will be the next step in the development of culture.
606. Our brother who was a shoemaker occasionally changed his trade to gardening. This is wise, for the seed growing into a sprout radiates fine energy of particular tension; one should remember this. After the pralaya of night the morning Sun acts with special vitality in calling forth finer energy. Similarly the awakened life of the seed, like the dawn, sends forth its emanations of prayer. Let us note carefully all benevolent influences. -M: Agni Yoga 1929

298. Certainly a country propelled by a mechanical system cannot achieve much without the destruction of the old. Therefore we value each creative thought, and the gold of the entire world will not buy the growth of thought. -M: Infinity 2, 1930

316. Healing through the fragrance of flowers, resins and seeds goes back to hoary antiquity. Thus a rose not only possesses a similarity to musk but also prevents imperil. A garden of roses was considered by the ancients as a place of inspiration. Freesias are beneficial for the sympathetic nervous system which vibrates so much in a yogi. The seeds of barley are unsurpassed for the lungs. You know already about mint, about the resin of cedar and other resins. Perfumes are now bereft of meaning like all other desecrated values, yet the origin of fragrance underlies a useful but forgotten knowledge. Certainly the poisons of antiquity were very subtle. The newly invented narcotics are comparatively crude, chiefly they destroy the intellect—in other words, precisely that which sustains the balance in all finer energy experiments. A flaming heart without spiritual balance is an impossibility—thus one must remember all details that bring one close to Hierarchy.
351. Hierarchy must be adopted as an evolutionary system. To those spirits who have not yet outlived slavery it should be repeated that Hierarchy differs completely from despotism. Even a chimney-sweep must climb to the roof in order to clean the flues. This cannot be done from below. One cannot compose a symphony without one key for all instruments.
422. If irritation generates imperil, then each exalted thought must create an opposite beneficial substance, and so it is. Certainly bliss is a complete reality, it is generated in the cortical system and reacts upon brain matter. …where the steps of evolution are being built our hand will be on guard! First we shall give attention to establishing the fact of imperil.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………..…
6. They will ask: why first Infinity, then Hierarchy and only then Heart? Why not the reverse? But first comes direction, then connection and then the means. One must not spoil this sacred recourse by doubt. Let us regard the quality of the pulse of a man in doubt and also at the hour of devoted striving. If doubt can alter the pulse and auric emanations, how physically deteriorating will be its action upon the nervous system! Finer energy is simply devoured by doubt.
58. Verily one can observe where the foot of an Envoy has stepped and how a magnet attracted an entire locality into the orbit of action, as has been said of the angels of life and death. Hence one must concentratedly watch events and find in them a vast system.
62. The Sun is the heart of the system; so also the heart of man is the sun of the organism. There are many sun-hearts, and the universe represents a system of hearts; therefore the cult of light is the cult of the heart. To understand this abstractly is to leave the heart cold…The heart's rhythm can be regarded as the rhythm of life. The Teaching about the heart is as bright as the Sun, and the warmth of the heart speeds as swiftly as a sunbeam. Everyone has wondered at the instantaneousness with which a ray of the rising Sun warms all things; the heart can act likewise.
116. The process of trial is most beneficial and enters into the system of the ancient Teachings.
153. In hoary antiquity incense was used to determine the aura of objects. It was supposed that objects with good auras became imbued with incense, whereas bad emanations did not absorb the effusions of the plant. Afterwards incense was used in the temples in order to strengthen the finer energy realm and bring it nearer. Verily incense has the property of increasing vital finer potentiality. When used at funerals its purpose is to safeguard the one who has passed the borderline of consciousness and to liberate him from the state of slumber that is usual for those who are unprepared. Such details of the ancient knowledge are completely forgotten; similarly forgotten is the significance of various fragrances. The manufacturing of perfumes has lost its ancient meaning--not only has it lost this but through ignorance the most harmful combinations are often used. The use of aromas in antiquity was connected with the study of cures; priests indicated how to utilize aromas and in what cases to apply them. Thus without witchcraft one can trace an entire system of cures based on inhalation and the nourishing of the nervous system by rubbing aromatic essences into the skin. Thus the ancients looked far deeper than the surface of the skin.
318. As the cadenza of ancient India is far more refined than the Western scale, so also the heart that cognizes the finer energy realm will afford incomparably more subtle modulations of tone. Of course physicians avoid examining healthy people; thus they overlook a precious page which guides one to the future. Usually all miracles and visions are relegated to the category of hysteria, but no one explains what hysteria is. They will say it is an intensified reaction of the sympathetic nervous system or they will attribute it to an irritation of the peripheral nerve endings; they will determine many causes among various reasons and will apply most bovine remedies, but they will not trouble to think whether in these manifestations there is not a higher reason.
324. It is not necessary to regard the individualistic method as unscientific; quite the opposite …Thus observation gives the first foundations for systematic divisions. In the same way facts that are noticed by sincere observers will be brought precisely into a system….Thus the position of science not only will not waver but will be broadened in new circles.
376. When you desire the heart to transmute a certain influence you should first transmit this task consciously to the heart; you will then sense that the heart will be felt as a thing isolated. Not a pain or a pressure but the sense of a self-sufficient apparatus will denote the presence of the heart. Thus it must be when the heart assimilates foreign influences in order to transmute them and prevent the poisoning of the entire system. -M: Heart 1932

386. Among the prophylactics against cancer and other fiery ailments one may advise valerian.…any prophylaxis must be systematic--every evening without fail, like the daily course of the Sun.
387. System, rhythm have a determining significance. In biographies one can perceive how rhythm has strengthened the mind and Fire. In fact at the present time rhythm is much spoken of, but it is not applied in life. Thinking is very chaotic and life is disorderly. The ancients in their pranayama exercises introduced a certain rhythm, but now everything is permitted, and man is the slave of everything.
479. Our task is to remind men that as the highest expression of the manifested world they can be centers for uniting the worlds. Only by inculcating this thought can men be directed toward true advance.
487. Historic acts of great significance were often carried out in accordance with directions given in visions. The Invisible Government has pronounced its decisions more often than people suspect…You yourselves already know of an entire succession of historic events which were based on warnings and indications. Thus one can note a series of events from antiquity to our days which were seemingly links of one guiding thought. It is right to collect these fiery revelations; in them will be disclosed an entire interworld system. One must probe historical facts deeply in order still more consciously to understand the wisdom of the construction. I advise the recording of all known historic events that took place or were connected with higher visions. During such work many more facts will be found because a striving thought is like a magnet.
632. In the acquisition of qualities one cannot keep to one system or one order of sequence. Whoever feels at heart the need of acquiring patience let him set himself this task. Whoever strives to develop courage let him gather this experience. One cannot forbid him who wishes to think of compassion or express himself in cooperation. Still worse are conventional coercive methods which force the disciple to strive for the quality farthest from him which cannot yet be assimilated. With all the discipline of the Greek schools of philosophy imposition on a pupil's freewill was forbidden. For example all abusive words were forbidden by mutual agreement without coercion, otherwise a man could send mentally still worse abuse. One should definitely indicate to the beginners the need for improving their qualities, but in the sequence of predilection. The fires of the heart kindle the centers according to individuality. Thus one should appreciate these fiery guideposts. It must be understood why we so insist upon a natural transformation of life; it is because otherwise the effects of deviation from the very nature of striving will result in a violation of all foundations. -M: Fiery World 1933

16. As in Heaven so on Earth--one foundation of Be-ness verily permeates all existence. Precisely this foundation should help humanity to understand the Hierarchy of Infinity. Who then will doubt that in every earthly object is expressed someone's will? Without will no earthly object can be created nor set into motion. Thus it is upon Earth and it is the same in higher realms. Since the existence of the planet as an earthly stronghold requires an impulse of will it is just as comprehensible that the whole systems of heavenly bodies require the same. Such will of course is more readily comprehensible to an expanded consciousness, but even the average human will can serve as an example of a microcosm. One need not go too far in special calculation, but if we take as a unit the human will at its highest tension, then it is possible to estimate the force of the impulse of the planetary will….So useful are observations therefore upon will power, when thought sets into motion this cosmic energy. The abode of Agni is the furnace of cosmic power.
86. Many criminals will turn to labor under suggestion. Just as drunkenness and other vices ailments of crime may be cured by the command of the will. It must not be forgotten also that many crimes are committed under the influence of obsession. Thus such people need to be cured and not punished. Definitely during such treatments increased systematic labor has a decisive significance; for the obsessing entities every labor is hateful. They try to cast one into chaos, but the essence of labor is already a countermanifestation. One ought not be distressed by the thought as to whence will come the strong suggestions….Finer energy must occupy the attention of enlightened people. -M: Fiery World 1934

275. Every consciousness can attain this systematic constructiveness through intensified search for that with which to adorn the treasure of life. Through equilibrium speed increases creatively, and the focus can affirm its own radiation for a corresponding constructiveness. Thus is it important in cosmic reorganization to accept equilibrium as a basic principle. The power of growth of the structure is affirmed in the proportions upon which equilibrium is established.
309. The sphere of activity of a man engulfed by psychism is limited within a charmed circle in which all the energies which retard growth of the spirit find their fitting place. Psychism embraces the manifestation of the lowest energies, and the fires of the centers are extinguished by these precipitations. With psychism there is inevitably to be found disorder of the nervous system. In addition the breaking away from vital functions closes the path to self-perfectionment. Creativeness is blunted, and there is established a passive state which makes a man an instrument for the influx of all kinds of forces. By reason of relaxation of the will, control is weakened and by this the attraction of various lower entities is increased. He who wishes to approach Agni must battle with these forces of evil.
493. It is difficult to think about Agni without mobility of mind. He cannot take in all the sparks who does not know how to turn about in resourcefulness. Thus one must reflect upon the fiery link with each manifestation of life. People little study the manifestation and reaction of electricity on the nervous system. Each man can investigate upon himself how a current of electricity acts on the quality of his pulse; spatial electricity and condensed magnetization will act differently. The pulse will show a quality of significant tension. In general one should not reject any observations made upon oneself. People may be lacking in power of observation, but knowledge of oneself is instructive.
595. The surface of the Earth is covered with soda, for broad usage. Likewise oil of artemisia (wormwood) is a powerful strengthener of the nervous system. It does not destroy but fierily cleanses injurious deposits. -M: Fiery World 1935

344. Patience is a conscious systematic understanding of what is taking place. Patience needs to be cultivated as a promoter of advancement. It is absurd to represent patience as an inner atrophy, on the contrary the process of patience is intensity. Thus energy takes part in events, contributing to them and not making erroneous premises in advance.
569. Is the fragmentary character of these notes accidental? May it not be that in this mosaic there is contained a rhythm and a special design? Let friends sometimes reflect upon why this system has been selected! Does there not lie in it the particular problem of reacting on different centers? Perfecting the ability of perception is a very important attainment. -M: Aum 1936

177. Immunity is regarded as linked to a condition of the entire nervous system, thus putting forward the significance of the primary energy. How then may one not recognize it when science is paying particular attention to it? Can one deny the basis of immunity? People are especially concerned about their health, yet at the same time they lose sight of the most precious factor. How then will thoughts about Brotherhood be created, if the fundamentals of life are left in neglect?
201. The best curative products are often neglected. Milk and honey are considered nutritious products, yet they have been entirely forgotten as regulators of the nervous system. When used in their pure form they contain the precious primary energy. Precisely this quality in them must be preserved, whereas the sterilization of milk and the special processing of honey deprive them of their most valuable property. There remains the nutritive importance, but their basic value disappears.
474. It is advisable to observe the methods of the invasion of chaos. Many suppose that the very concept of chaos excludes any system. A representation of chaos as completely formless will be untrue. Even in each life it can be observed how subtly chaos creeps in. It intrudes as an actual decomposing force. "The Invasion of Chaos" could be the title of an extremely instructive book of observations. -M: Brotherhood 1937

74. We have spoken many times about rhythm, and none of us will condemn the rhythms that bring harmony. Beautiful singing can open beautiful gates. Therefore discriminate carefully between absurd survivals and steps of beauty. The Teacher warns that rhythm can influence the entire nervous system. Some parts of ancient rituals that have been preserved to this day and now confuse the consciousness can be very dangerous. Words used today during various services were once parts of incantations to exorcise dark forces, but now they are pronounced without sense and even with incorrect rhythm. Such distortions of sound can have a different effect, therefore one should study ancient sources in order to wipe away the dust of ages. We are not speaking of crude changes but of the purification of thought. We grieve when vibrations become distorted and, instead of construction, cause destruction.
77. Our apparatuses may resemble simple telegraphic receivers, but they are designed for more subtle vibrations. The necessary tension requires an increase in prana. -M: Supermundane 1, 1938
………………………………………………….…………………………………………….……
255. Scientists are discovering new characteristics of the human brain, and such research is useful for establishing the equilibrium of rhythm. The brain and nervous system will provide unusual discoveries that will create possibilities for adjustment to the new rhythm.
279. It is wrong to think that our solar system is entirely isolated. On the contrary, all the worlds are subtly interrelated. The fundamental law is immutable, but each planet creates and projects its individual characteristics.
282. Both blasphemy and irritability are especially harmful when the cosmic currents are tensed. They cause an inflammation of the mucous membranes that cannot be attributed to a sickness of the stomach, intestines, nose or throat. There may be pain in one specific area, yet all the mucous membranes are inflamed, and diagnoses fail because they do not deal with all the symptoms. This illness may be considered Armageddonal. Eyes and intestines, stomach and teeth, throat and heart all collectively produce an unexpected combination of symptoms. This condition requires serious attention since it destroys the mucous membrane and can be transferred to the nervous system.
338. Powerful are human poisons, and salutary is finer energy….I stress the need for preserving calmness and an atmosphere of solemnity. This may sound strange, for what can the spleen and a solemn mood have in common? In fact the spleen is the organ of harmony and must therefore be purified by a harmonious disposition. People assume that only the nervous system requires finer energy influences, but such influences are also needed for various organs. The example of the spleen is indicative. I speak of this particular organ because it is rarely mentioned and needs special attention.
340. It would be good to remember the remedy of ancient times when sick people would go into seclusion and remain close to nature. This was done not only in cases of contagious diseases but when the organism was in need of renewal. Even now there are those who prefer to live in mobile homes or in tents. Of course a collection of many tents in one place only replicates urban conditions, but the fact that people dream of and look for seclusion reveals a healthy instinct for the preservation and restoration of health. We transmit thoughts of health, but of health correctly understood. It is especially important to think about health now. Many people are aware that the destruction of the nervous system has reached an extreme point. They understand that progress is impossible on this path of decay, but only a few know the significance of health in its full sense.
417. People sometimes attempt to advance by leaps, prompted by fear or prejudice or by their passions, but it is impossible to advance by leaps. A steady, systematic motion is needed in everything, and only through the golden mean can one progress.
441. Certain views of the caste system must likewise be reformed. In ancient times its restrictions were wisely applied, but evolution has since taken many turns. It is now wise to reevaluate the conditions of life, and we must not allow prejudiced thinking to be an obstacle. -M: Supermundane 2, 1938
