You saw an eagle flying, and a hurricane destroyed the harvest of toilers—go and bring amends! Where then is your usefulness, O Arhats? An owl in the hollow of a tree has passed the time more usefully. Either toil on the Earth in the sweat of your brow or in a moment of solitude lift yourselves above the Earth. But let not the useless commotion of the elements be the occupation of the wise."
224. Could a structure of a community be conceived without crystals of sound and color? Verily this would be a mole's hole! The bearers of sound and color must bring into the community an unspilled vessel. Knowledge and creativeness will be the amrita of the Community….Action surrounds great aum.
261. In the life of every association there may occur a situation wherein a development in one certain direction may bring harmful results. Then the guiding leader must find a path of new tasks, broad enough to absorb the friction. Let us not call the friction rivalry or worse names. In dangerous straits ships go in single file; likewise in the development of the community there may be need to disconnect the movement of the participants. Instead of possible harm, there may result an acquirement of new domains….If crowding of movement is not forestalled, then dissention is assured.

362. People are often more perturbed by thunder than by lightning. Likewise with events—people are more troubled by the reverberation than by the essence. One could say that there is no need to be terrified by thunder if the lightning has not struck! Only a novice fears the thunder of cannons and does not hear the flight of a bullet. Finer energy reacts to the lightning. It can be seen how the natural capacities of the organism protect one from perilous conflagration. Thus finer energy sometimes induces artificial swellings in order to divert a dangerous conflagration from an adjacent center. -M: Hierarchy 1931

84. The Battle is not upon the physical plane; it is not the small earthly forces that battle each other, but Forces of age-old experience are arrayed to determine their destiny! The earthly reflections of the Battle swell out like unexpected blisters, but the fiery heart does not follow the earthly signs. 254. One must guard as a treasure this converse with the Teacher. One who understands the sacred significance of this communion will not turn to darkness. But how the heart must be guarded lest it sever the silver cord! Nothing can weld it. One can bestow all compassion, but the cord is forged out of a multitude of qualities. As the ancient images were cast from many metals, so is the cord strong through many qualities. But sweetest communion of the heart with the Teacher is that forge where the mighty fire radiates.
359. A special course should be created—knowledge of the heart. The simplest maidservant understands the sweetness of speaking of the heart. -M: Heart 1932

248. One should reflect sometimes how much the fertility of the planet is diminishing in spite of all the artificial measures taken at times by governments. It is possible to plant a grove of trees and at the same time poison and destroy entire forests. People marvel at the remains of primeval forest giants, but they do not ponder whether such giants can grow up nowadays. People strip away the virgin covering of the planet and then are astounded at the spread of sandy wastes. Upon recounting all the species on the planet one may be surprised at how little they are improved. Let us not consider certain peculiar cross-breedings that like dropsy can swell the size of certain vegetables. -M: Brotherhood 1937
