11-15-18   It means PG&E could ask for a bailout from the state.  And it means that while everybody figures out how to pay for the recovery, nobody is going to be figuring out how to pay for the new equipment and infrastructure necessary to prevent old power lines from starting forest fires.

this company offers great pay and benefits. On the other hand they have put many supervisors and managers in in positions where they are so disconnected from the actual work their teams are doing....it creates a lot of distrust and mis management of resources.
More interested in share holders than stake holders

My experience at PG&E saw the company lose its reputation as a company that cared for its employees and customers, to a company that cared only for its bottom line and stock value. It neglected its obligation to the public to perform proper maintenance of its infrastructure in order to lower its operating costs on a regular basis year after year, resulting in severe consequences to public safety.
The upper management disregarded any concerns of its employees in the field, and kept an "ivory tower" attitude toward its management style and decision making. All this, of course, is typical of the corporate philosphies being prcticed across Corporate America today.
Good work life balance, but large bureaucratic company

The company offers good benefits on average, although below comparisons to other Bay Area companies. Leadership is not great. Very few people who know what they are doing and most work gets delegated down because no one knows what they are doing. Advancement is based on your relationships, not your performance or qualifications. You will very often hear that "you don't need to be an expert to be a leader" here.

I did not enjoy my time there. My manager was the reason I left. She would tell me to do things one way, one day; and then berate me for not doing it another way. I would show her the notes I took when she would tell me how she wanted something done, and she would become even more irate towards me. Every day sucked. I finally decided to quite, finish my MBA and go to a happier company and more enjoyable position.

PG&E used to be a great company to work for.  The mission was clear and leadership had a vision to be the best.  Last few years have been rough and they have a strong focus now on cutting costs.  This includes layoffs which leads to low morale among employees.  The mid-management and director level can be hit or miss.  If you are unlucky and get tied to a poor organization, you're time won't be happy because they don't know what they're doing.  If lucky, the work the can be great and rewarding. i've had both.

Many people work at PG&E quite successfully. I never did. The company is too heavy in middle-management positions and uses outdated means of management. Even though the CEO is female, the culture is that of a good 'ol boys club.

I do not wish to go into detail.  My comments are reflected in my answers to your previous questions.  Management is poorly selected and good managers get laid off or fired.  Too much turnover.  PG&E is following the philosophy in OT that cheaper (offshoring to India) is better, which is not true.  Plus, grading system for raises is horribly done; people can have little chance if any of advancement.  Managers are poorly trained and most do not support their people.

Excellent company, but run by idiots

The best way I can describe PG&E is that it's a great company run by a bunch of idiots and sprinkled liberally with a bunch of gossips. The safety program, however, is the best I've seen of any company. I feel the pay and benefits are outstanding and training is top-notch.

Not a good place for IT

Programmer Analyst (Current Employee) –  San Ramon, CA – May 25, 2017
PG&E is a big company and there are some great departments, but the IT department is poor and not well managed. How well you are treated (training, resources, etc.) depends on which group/city you are in. 

If you are in the wrong group:

- you are given systems to support without any documentation or training. 
- your systems will be treated like a "set it and forget it" by management. As long as a system works, your requests to revisit or improve will be denied. 
- the best projects will be given to consultants and as an employees you will be left to do maintenance work. 
- as a current employees you will be treated like "old blood" no matter what skills or self-learning you have done.

On the positive side, because the training is horrible, the employees who actively try to keep up their skills are great self-starters and self-learners. Very smart people overlooked by management.

Terrible company to work for. Outsourced American IT jobs to India in January of 2017. The company did not disclose this to the media, only that they had a workforce reduction. False! They backfilled the American jobs with lower paid workers in India.
Too many layers of management with very poor business sense. VP's and Directors brought their ways that took down their former companies to PG&E, and in turn, are bringing down PG&E. Wonder why they have changed their electric pricing tiers? How about gas the recent increase in gas rates?
