Jamal Khahoggi's family; 4 phone calls from Saudi consulate

10-22-2018    A member of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s entourage made four calls to the royal’s office from the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul the day Jamal Khashoggi was killed there, a pro-government Turkish newspaper reported Monday.  The report by Yeni Safak on Monday said Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a member of Prince Mohammed’s entourage on trips to the United States, France and Spain this year, made the calls from the consulate. The newspaper said the four calls went to Bader al-Asaker, the head of Prince Mohammed’s office. It said another call went to the United States.
Yeni Safak cited no source for the information.  However pro-government newspapers have been leaking information about Khashoggi’s killing, apparently with the help of Turkish security forces. https://globalnews.ca/news/4580310/calls-made-saudi-prince-office-jamal-khashoggi-killed/

10-22-18  Salah Khashoggi, who lives in the Saudi city of Jeddah, has been unable to travel out of Saudi Arabia for several months, as his passport had been invalidated, according to sources close to the family.  Other members of Khashoggi's family, including his ex-wife and daughter, are currently in Dubai, add the sources.    https://www.wkbw.com/news/national/jamal-khashoggi-saudi-royals-offer-condolences-to-family-of-slain-journalist

10-11-18      Khashoggi had this undeserved status in the West because of the publicity surrounding his sacking as editor of the Saudi daily Al Watan back in 2003.  (I broke the news of his removal for Reuters.  I’d worked alongside Khashoggi at the Saudi daily Arab News during the preceding years.)  He was dismissed because he allowed a columnist to criticise an Islamist thinker considered to be the founding father of Wahhabism.  Thus overnight Khashoggi became known as a liberal progressive.
The Muslim Brotherhood though has always been at odds with the Wahhabi movement.  Khashoggi and his fellow travellers believe in imposing Islamic rule by engaging in the democratic process.  The Wahhabis loathe democracy as a Western invention.    https://spectator.us/2018/10/jamal-khashoggi/

Trump said he has talked with Prince Mohammed since Khashoggi's death, but urged the kingdom to be more forthcoming about how the journalist was killed.  "I’m not satisfied with what I’ve heard," Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for a campaign rally in Texas.
Trump also indicated he would not accept the kingdom's request to have one month to complete its full investigation into the killing.  "I think that's a long time," the President said.  "There's no reason for that much."   https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/412584-trump-not-satisfied-after-talk-with-saudi-leader-mbs
