Jan 17, 202 Germany reiterated its refusal to send defensive weapons to Ukraine that according to Kyiv would help the country fend off a potential Russian invasion. This comes as part of a new German peace policy that aims at restricting arms exports and fostering peace via diplomacy.
German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock, speaking in Kyiv on a tour that next takes her to Moscow, said on Monday (18 January) she hoped tensions with Russia over Ukraine could be solved by diplomacy, but she warned that Moscow would suffer if it does attack its neighbour.
“Each further aggressive act will have a high price for Russia, economically, strategically and politically,” Baerbock emphasised that “different historical responsibilities” are the reason for this and that Germany will support Ukraine by other means.
“The most effective lever that we have to back Ukraine is the unequivocal and, above all, the unanimous commitment of the EU, the G7 and NATO,” Baerbock said. Speaking alongside Baerbock, Kuleba said “each country will do what that country considers necessary and what corresponds to the national interests of that country when it comes to supporting Ukraine.”
While he tried to convince Baerbock of the necessity of defensive weapons to fend off a potential Russian aggression, he said Ukraine would be seeking to receive arms from other sources.
“We are working every day on this question,” Kuleba stated. “And our dialogue with Germany on this issue will continue,” he added.
The US, UK, Lithuania and France have meanwhile pledged additional support, saying they would export new defensive weapons to Ukraine, among them Javelin anti-tank missiles, Stinger missiles, small arms, and boats. London already started ferrying anti-armour weaponry to Ukraine on Monday evening.
During the election campaign last May, current Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck said that Germany could hardly deny Ukraine defensive weapons, a declaration which prompted widespread controversy.
However the new government has taken a more restrictive approach towards the export of weapons to third countries.
Germany exported €9.35 billion worth of arms exports with explicit government approval in 2021, an all-time record. Of those, €4.2 billion were weapons of war, something that the new government aims to change with new legislation that limits arms exports. https://www.euractiv.com › defence-and-security › news

Poland and Britain have offered security aid to Ukraine in its standoff with Moscow after Russia massed tens of thousands of troops near Ukraine's borders in recent weeks. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due in Kyiv later on Tuesday.
"I hope that in the near future we will be able to officially launch a new regional format of cooperation Ukraine-Poland-UK, in the context of ongoing Russian aggression, we should sign a trilateral document on cooperation to strengthen regional security," Shmygal said.

Not many people are aware the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, the “leader of the free world” as some far left journalists in main stream media like to refer to her, was a Communist agitator who's job was to spread Communist propaganda and brainwash her fellow Germans in East Germany. Among the photo-shopped images of her displayed online, satirically portraying her in Nazi uniform, there is one genuine photograph. It shows her wearing the uniform of the Freie Deutsche Jugend (FDJ), the East German Communist equivalent of the Hitler Youth or Soviet Young Pioneers, in company with other members of the GDR nomenklatura. Even though Merkel was never an official member of the East German Communist party, she was an ardent supporter of the Marxist cause, and did everything she could to support it. As a young adult Merkel joined the Communist Free German Youth movement which was described as the German socialist answer to the Hitler Youth, a youth movement whose main goal was to indoctrinate the unsuspecting minds of its young adults followers. As a young women she voluntarily joined the “Freie Deutsche Jugend” (FDJ) youth organization at the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin. Her role in was to supervise and promote Communist propaganda which was meant to brainwash her fellow students.
Tellingly enough, Merkel never protested against Communism or against the GDR's communist leaders through the 1980s while so many others in East Germany did. Merkel was seldom interrogated about her Communist past for most of her political career: in Germany, too many people have sensitive histories involving personal or family service of one form of totalitarianism or another for such questioning to be considered good form. Most of these revelations about Merkel's Communist past and conditioning come from a biography which was written by journalists Günther Lachmann and Ralf Georg Reuth
the book states that Merkel was active in various political organisations while studying for her doctorate and working as a researcher at university in Berlin. The list includes the Free German Youth movement (the FDJ, the official youth wing of the German Democratic Republic, or GDR), the major workers’ union, and the Society for German-Soviet Friendship.

January 10, 2018 In 1954 Horst Kasner, a Protestant pastor of strongly leftist convictions, voluntarily moved from capitalist Hamburg to East Germany, taking with him his wife and weeks-old daughter Angela. Today that infant is the embattled acting Chancellor of Germany.
To come anywhere near understanding the enigma that is Angela Merkel it is necessary to explore her early life as a Communist activist in East Germany…
In 2013, however, a new biography, “The First Life of Angela M”, exposed her as the former FDJ Secretary for Agitation and Propaganda (“Agitprop”) at the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin. Agitprop was at the sharp end of the ideological war, involving the aggressive inculcation of Marxism-Leninism among her colleagues. It would never have been entrusted to a lukewarm Communist. Theatre tickets, anyone?
As a schoolgirl Merkel took pains to learn fluent Russian – she could be seen learning vocabulary even while waiting at the bus stop – and at age 15 won the local Russian language “Olympics”….
Merkel’s political assassination of her patron Kohl, though a common enough event in Western politics, was also reminiscent of a Soviet politburo putsch….after winning the September 2013 German elections under her party’s traditional slogan “No experiments”, in mid-2015 startlingly invited countless numbers of migrants into Germany. Worse still, when this proved unsustainable, she arrogantly attempted to impose them on the other member states of the European Union….
Merkel with Klaus Schwab
Merkel, arguably, drove Britain out of the EU. Then her migrant quotas alienated Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and put them in serious conflict with Brussels….Once the totalitarian mentality has been embedded in a politician’s psyche, although it may lie concealed for more than a decade of opportunist vote-seeking, image fabricating (the “Mutti” imposture), self-conscious superficial conformity to Western “democratic” totems, the will to exercise power is never extinguished.
Hailed as “Queen of Europe” while Merkel counterfeited the humble, shabby Hausfrau, her instincts remained discreetly imperial. Hitler always had a portrait of Frederick the Great in his office; Merkel has one of Catherine the Great in hers. Apparently her Russian sympathies are not extinct. -G.
