Ignorant people do not understand that slavery dwells in darkness

146.  There are no situations in which a brawl can solve a dispute; the loftier the subject the more unbefitting is the brawl.  It is possible to show the necessity of destroying a (dark-force) enemy, but such destruction is not a result of an affront.  Nothing can offend the conscious fighter.
147.  That man is called hero who acts selflessly, but this definition is not complete.  He is a hero who acts self-sacrificingly, unwaveringly, consciously, and who acting in the name of the common good thus brings nearer the current of cosmic evolution.
Heroes may be encountered in present-day life; one should not consider this concept inapplicable.  If we fear to introduce such a concept, we ourselves break away from the path leading into the region of truth.  One should recognize heroism in life; one should fearlessly recognize the presence of the enemies; one should remember that the sword is the staff of the hero. Knowing how to turn sword into staff must find a place in the day’s work.
How all magical formulas droop before the irrepressible leap over the abyss to the life-giving Sun!
151.  The knowledge of how to sway the crowd lies not in eloquence but in understanding the nodes of the crowd and in timely sending thither of a lightbearing thought.  Lack of understanding as to how to address oneself into space and the fixation on a single listener are equally harmful….
The personal electrification of the crowd is useful in that the kindled nodes become, as it were, resonators and energize a considerable periphery around themselves.  How then to discover the most efficient and resounding nodes of the crowd?  Between speaker and crowd fly balls of light, and the centers of energies blaze clearly if the orator is not a babbler but a leader for the common good.
Make an effort to compare the physical radiations of a babbler and a leader for the general good.  How scintillating is the radiation of the leader, what direct arrows spurt from his shoulders and what purple waves flow outward in defense and engender new might!  But the radiation of a babbler is furrowed with zigzags, the ends of which turn inwards.
152.  Riddance from delay is accomplished by two particular external qualities in life:  precision in labor and vigilance.  Precision in labor must be developed in each worker.
A complete instantaneous transfer of attention allows any moment of labor to crystallize. Through discipline it is possible to attain a clearcut isolation of each thought. The leaps of bloated rabbits are ineffective.  Side by side with precision stands eternal vigilance.  Not the cold advice of decadent wiseacres:  “Be not surprised at anything!” but the flaming call—“Be eagle-eyed!”  Such intensity is not a taut cable ready to break but the rainbow of foresight.
154.  Poor is the leader who conceals real danger.  (Such lack of forthrightness) can be conquered only with the help of complete knowledge.

67.  One must pay attention to the origins of various epidemics. The manifestation of this or that epidemic is reflected upon the general conscious forces.  Poisoning penetrates deeper than one may think and regenerates itself and creates new microbes.  Physical and psychic epidemics are very pernicious.  Many degenerations of entire families originate from such regenerated microbes.
70.  Man must always be on the threshold of the future; man is new every moment….It is not easy to know constantly and courageously that each moment renovates the worlds, but out of this source is born inexhaustible vigor.
71.  Bribery must be eradicated by all means but one cannot rely upon punitive measures; they help little.  In the lessons in ethics in schools the thought must be affirmed that bribery does not conform to the dignity of man.  One should observe very attentively whether such symptoms of corruption are making their appearance. Next to bribery in shamefulness is the nonfulfillment of duty.  But this crime is assimilated so early that one can only counteract it by beginning from childhood; let children get used to the work of grownups.  The quality of labor will create the realization of duty.  Every negligence, forgetfulness and evasion can be condemned only in one’s own heart.
72.   Verily courage is created through the indissoluble link with Hierarchy….when our consciousness is completely transported into the domain where there is no fear and depression then we are invulnerable to any filth.  One should understand where lies one’s strength and should hasten thither without any evasiveness.  Thus can courage be made firm.
73.  The Guiding Hand untiringly watches the current of possibilities for the Good.
75.  Excessive heat and fire are raging, reminding us that before wars and upheavals conflagrations are prevalent.
76.  Verily luxury must leave the new constructive order, the more so since luxury is akin neither to beauty nor to knowledge.  But sinuous are the boundary lines of luxury, it is impossible to define them by one law.  One must completely eradicate every vulgarity which is the fellow-traveler of luxury.
78.  The world lives in mystery, and the highest mystery is unrevealable.  Similarly in every tension there is an element of mystery….One must not invent mystery but one must respect it.
80.  There is no man who can get along without being taught.  One must not become proud in one’s own heart. Understanding Hierarchy will help to establish the manifestation of the leader who in relation to the higher ones is not a leader but a follower.
81.  The guiding and coordinating of events are enormously difficult because of the poisoning of certain atmospheric strata. Some events ripen as fruit under the scorching rays of the Sun but others grow moldy as stored things in damp weather.
83.  Everyone summoning his neighbor to the fiery baptism is already a participant in the great service; everyone accepting a part in the carrying of the Cross of Truth will not weaken….Everyone who realizes the significance of the heart as the abode of Agni is already upon the true path.
84. The verbal command remains in life…if someone does not know Hierarchy, he will not understand the sacredness of the Command.  Many instructions about the laws of Nature are needed in order to understand the entire beauty of the Law of Attraction which lies at the foundation of Hierarchy.  Ignorant people do not understand that slavery dwells in darkness while freedom dwells in the light of Hierarchy.
85.  Verily the esteem for Spirit will grow; Godlessness must be eradicated. The fact is that it is better to preserve even fragments of the cognizance of Hierarchy, even in conventional forms, than to be cast into the abyss of chaos.

86.  Many criminals will turn to labor under suggestion. Just as drunkenness and other vices, ailments of crime may be cured by the command of the will.  It must not be forgotten also that many crimes are committed under the influence of obsession, consequently such people need to be cured and not punished.
