Schiff was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.  The Main is a river in the west of that country, flowing into the Rhine. There is also a Frankfurt an der Oder.  The Oder is in east Germany at the Polish border.
Frankfurt a.M. had a Jewish community dating back to at least the 12th century, when Jews came there from Trier and other early Roman settlements. It ought to be understood that the Jewish communities of Southern Germany preceded all other Germans by at least seven hundred years, since the Germanic invasion of Western Europe from Siberia did not take place until the ninth century.
Jacob Schiff was the descendent of a rabbinical family who had been in Frankfurt since 1370.  Like all Jews he spent his youth in the Frankfurt ghetto, living with his family in the “Judengasse”, or Jew alley, slum.
At age 18, Schiff left Germany and moved to New York. There were then no immigration laws in this country, so that anyone could come at any time.  Schiff at once located a job in banking with the German Jewish investment bankers Kuhn and Loeb.  Having married the boss's daughter, he became head of the Kuhn & Loeb banking firm and soon an exceptionally rich man. This permitted him to intervene in the Russo-Japanese war of 1901-1905, when he extended several loans to Japan which may well have contributed to Japan’s victory over Russia. There can be little doubt that Schiff wanted Russia to lose the war against Japan, as Russia was at that time the most insidious and destructive enemy of the Jewish people.  http://jbuff.com/c040606.htm'

Jacob Schiff was born in 1847 in Frankfurt am MainGermany, to Moses and Clara (née Niederhofheim) Schiff, members of a distinguished Ashkenazi Jewish rabbinical family that traced its lineage in Frankfurt back to 1370.  His father, Moses Schiff, was a broker for the Rothschilds.[1]  Schiff was educated in the schools of Frankfurt and was first employed in the banking and brokerage business as an apprentice in 1861.[4][5]  After the American Civil War had ended in April, 1865, Schiff came to the United States, arriving in New York City on August 6.    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Schiff

Although a major factor in German finance, after frequent business trips to New York Jacob Schiff, his brother's (Felix Warburg) father-in-law, was senior partner.  Warburg remained a partner in the family firm in Hamburg, but he became a naturalized American citizen in 1911. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in New York City.[2][3]
Paul Warburg settled there in 1902 as a partner in Kuhn, Loeb & Co., where the influential
Warburg was elected a director of Wells Fargo & Company in February 1910.  He resigned in September 1914 following his appointment to the Federal Reserve Board, and Jacob Schiff was elected to his seat on the Wells Fargo board.[5]
Warburg became known as a persuasive advocate of central banking in America.  Many of his contemporaries regarded him as the chief driving force behind the establishment of America's central bank.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Warburg

The end of the war marked the beginning of economic rebuilding for Germany.  When the French withdrew in 1814, Moses and Gerson Warburg saw the need for replenishment of the country’s stock of silver currency to boost the German economy.  So a letter by the brothers was written to a prodigious banking firm in England, requesting the opportunity to handle bills of exchange of silver stock on behalf of the London firm of N.M. Rothschild and Sons.3  To put the Rothschild’s empire in perspective, the family’s biographer, Fredric Morton explained that the Rothschild dynasty had, “...conquered the world…”   https://digitalcommons.sacredheart.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=1110&context=his_fac
