Instead of wings of achievement it is easy to grow black horns - wings of false reasoning. The dark spirits have black emanations resembling horns. -Community 1926, pt. 19. .........  Thus the interweavement of red and black sparks indicates a battle. But those who know of this battle, through their fiery striving toward Us, cling to the silver ray which severs encumbrances. -Infinity 1, 1930 .............. The presence of even one outsider can serve as an intermediary. The entire world is divided into black and white ones. Some serve consciously, others according to their nature, and the third present a jelly-like mass unfit for anything. Certainly it is a decisive battle and one should take care that temptation and seduction do not touch the weak ones.... Now the dark ones have become more dangerous, because in trying to imitate Us they have eliminated many rituals and turned to the power of thought. The struggle against Us is difficult for them, but if the disciple's trend of thought is severed they can do harm. -Hierarchy 1931 ......... 111. When all the cosmic forces are strained, there can be no retreat without destruction.,,,if the workers wish to conquer, they must gather as a mighty force around the focus. Yes, yes, yes! If an ordinary physical form is kept together merely by cohesion of its particles, how much more powerful is the force emanating from the Hierarch! Therefore if the workers wish to conquer, they must gather as a mighty force around the focus.,,, Only thus during this threatening time of reorganization can one live through the manifestation of turmoil. Thus let us remember! -Hierarchy 1931 ............. 112. After having chosen the Lord and Guru no retreat is possible. The path lies only onward, and sooner or later with ease or difficulties you will come to the Teacher. When the black ones surround you and close their circle there will remain only the path upward to the Lord. Then you will feel that the Lord is somewhere not far-off and that the silver thread is above you. You have but to stretch out your hand! We can meet without the help of the black ones, but more often only he who is pressed from all sides reaches out to the silver thread and only in distress does he learn the language of the heart. -Hierarchy 1931 ......... 
126. Obstinacy and the black lodge will seek in every way to divert the thoughts from Hierarchy. Although subservience is highly developed among them, they keep it for themselves, knowing the immutability of this law. Hierarchy 1931 ............ 134. striving should be saturated precisely with the fire of attraction, and one should seek Light against the black lodge with the entire impulse. It is necessary to shield oneself with devotion to and realization of Hierarchy and to dare against the darkness with all levers of spirit and heart. -Hierarchy 1931 ............. 147. when the spirit is immune to faint-heartedness and treason, victory is manifested.

One more misconception often because of ignorance or self-justification-- people think that their thought is insignificant and can reach nowhere, whereas the potentiality of thought is great, and for thought there exists neither space nor time. 192. only the roots of Hierarchy can uphold a structure. Each digression brings harm to the mighty growth. One should be consciously affirmed in understanding of the power of Hierarchy. 283. Yet the same justice prescribes necessary caution toward the black forces. Usually they do not approach directly; they choose not less than three intercessors. They know their auras can easily be detected, and therefore they choose a consecutive chain of succession, establishing the gradation very subtly.

When I speak of the black ones I advise paying attention to their subtle methods and discerning how patiently they creep to the goal and how they choose shoulders behind which to screen themselves. You do not see the black ones but the grey ones and almost white ones. However this telegraph requires great attention. ............ 311. Treason is precisely the main basis of undermining by the black ones. For treason one must know something. This relative knowledge, not strengthened by devotion, may be found on the first steps. One must know that condemnation acts like fire upon a wavering devotion. It is sad to observe with what unnoticeable deviations the disciple begins to steep himself in indifference, finding eloquent justifications. Like the blade of a knife the heart loses its protective net. Without its sheath the blade injures the carrier himself; and such spurs do not lead to achievement, they lead only to irritation. If one day has passed successfully in demeaning the Teacher, why may not tomorrow also be blazing with blasphemy against the Highest? And if the silver thread is broken, the blade of ossification is already irrevocably sharpened. ,,,,,,,........, 
312. It is necessary to observe the wavering ones, for the contagion from them is great. Often they themselves are about to be submerged in the black agglomeration, yet the blasphemy disseminated by them wounds many innocent ones. You arm yourself rightly against indifference; it corrodes all beginnings, and what fires are possible from the frigidity of indifference? ... Indifference to our affirmations is impermissible! ................. 
376. I shall say of treason to the fanatics and bigots, They assume that treason is only a matter of thirty pieces of silver, but they forget that it is contained in each blasphemy and slander. One should not think that a malicious word is not also treason. It is precisely malice that is often inseparable from treason and slander. One and the same black tree nurtures these loathsome branches, and their fruits are as black as the roots of shame. One must speedily liberate oneself from the horror of malicious words. ................ 456. The most dangerous poison is produced by these imperceptible treasons. Often their consequences are more dreadful than one misdeed through crass ignorance. It is not easy to break the habit of the abomination of blasphemy, for the boundary between the white and black is complicated. -Hierarchy 1931 ............. 181. One cannot estimate the amount of pressure exerted by the black lodges against these leaders. Glory to them, the lightbearers! Heart 1932 .............. 183. It is difficult not to fear the black assembly, but no one can prevail over the fiery heart. Let them invent various threats, but one pillar of light will overthrow all darkness. Heart 1932 ............. 247. Thus the white horses of light must overtake the black horses. This reminder must be repeated, otherwise some may be tempted by these raven steeds. 484. A "black heart" was always considered as the symbol of great peril. Only the most unwavering courage could resist this misfortune, but such courage was rarely found. The degree of courage is tested by the force of the peril, and true courage waxes stronger in accordance with the intensity of the danger. ............... 
485. black hearts will not understand this Great Service. For them physical poisons are far stronger than spiritual ones. This must be repeated untiringly. Then courage will combine with caution. Heart 1932 ............. 556. above all formulas stands the energy of the heart. All formulas and conjurations presuppose mechanical apparatuses, remaining within the confines of the lowest teachings. ... The dark ones do not possess these strongholds. Only the pure heart can act. Only the link with the Hierarchy of Light can kindle the inextinguishable fires. .... Initiation by fire is only for the pure heart. ......... 599. A legend of the Uighurs speaks of the giant who captured the Black Dragon and chained him with many fetters. The giant left his sister to guard the dragon and himself hastened to the end of Earth to announce his victory. But when the giant reached the distant lands he heard his sister's call and understood that the dragon was rending the chains. The giant hastened back, but when he saw the seas he realized that he would be late if he continued by this way. Hence the giant determined to go from one mountain to another avoiding the seas, the forests and marshes; only thus did the giant arrive in time.
