meet Sun Guangxin, richest man in Xinjiang

1-16-2004  Today, Sun Guangxin is the richest and most powerful man in the far west region of Xinjiang and the eighth richest person in China, with a personal fortune of US$500 million.  He controls more than half the property market in Urumqi, the regional capital.   https://www.scmp.com/article/441577/king-xinjiang-business-genius-or-carpetbagger

a 130,000-acre piece of Texas land which a China-backed firm hopes to turn into a wind farm:  the project is managed by Chinese subsidiary company GH America Energy, a firm run by the China-based Guanghui Energy Company.  The property for the wind farm has more acreage than the city of Tulsa and is within 70 miles of Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

Texas state senator Donna Campbell:  "A Chinese billionaire who has high-ranking connections with the Chinese Communist Party purchased nearly 150,000 acres of land in a sparsely populated area of Texas.  We can’t allow hostile nations to get a foothold in our critical infrastructure."

A closer look revealed that the plot was close to an Air Force base, not to mention it was in an area that received little to no wind, and Texas legislators realized that their electric grid was left open for infiltration.  https://fism.tv/senator-donna-campbell-on-the-lone-star-infrastructure-protection-act/

8-24-20  former CIA officer and 2020 representative

Will Hurd (R-TX) said:  a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese Guanghua industry investment group.  Its CEO, a former Sun Guangzin, a member of the Communist Party and a former member of the Chinese military, now wants to build wind turbines on the more than 130,000 acres that he has purchased since 2015 by Devils River.  These are the broader questions.  A retired general or admiral from the U.S. military would not be able to buy property outside of Beijing and put up a wind farm and connect to the Chinese grid.  So for me, this is a broader question about reciprocity," said Hurd….

When you look at San Antonio, we have an NSA facility, a cyber command here, a number of universities that work with the federal government on intelligence matters. Right now this Chinese wind farm is going through a national security review process that has the FBI involved and the department of energy involved,” said Hurd.  We contacted GH America Energy for a statement and they have not responded back to us.  https://foxsanantonio.com/news/yami-investigates/chinese-wind-farm-in-texas-its-the-greatest-national-security-concern-said-hurd

1-18-2019  The average large American business deals with 54 million cyber-intrusions a year.  The DHS entity that is responsible for coordinating across the federal government and the private sector, they’re at 60-percent staff.  Not paying the people and furloughing the people dealing with this problem doesn’t make any sense….

If the narcos are making $67 billion a year — that’s a conservative, with a little “c,” estimate on how much is there — you’re not bringing [drugs] in in backpacks.  You’re bringing it in in bulk. The U.S. national intelligence program is $60 billion.  The narcos have the resources, they don’t have to worry about government shutdowns, and they’re coming back and forth and being able to deliver their product.  That is the issue we’re dealing with.

We do not have operational control of our border. Operational control meaning we know everything that’s going one way or the other.  The only way you do that is by looking at all 2,000 miles of border at the same time.  The only way you can look at all 2,000 miles of border at the same time is by using technology.  The technology exists where you can deploy, whether it’s radar or LiDAR — LiDAR is radar, but with light instead of sound — cameras, infrared.  You need a mile-by-mile assessment because each mile is different from the next.  The border is not this homogenous thing.  Two thousand miles is a lot.  Most people can’t wrap their heads around how big that is.  These are vast spaces.

By the way, do you know what the root causes [of illegal immigration] are?  Violence and lack of economy opportunities in the Northern Triangle:  El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.  State Department and USAID are doing programs to work with our allies to address those problems.  We’ve got to address root causes.  That takes time.  We should be working with Mexico.  Mexico deports more Central Americans than we do almost by two-to-one. This is a shared problem, so let’s address the root causes as well on that.

Look, here’s the thing.  In some places a physical barrier is a helpful tool.  But you can’t use the same tool over every single mile.  Let’s be efficient.  What I always say is building a wall from sea to shining sea is the most expensive and least effective way to do border security.  The average is $24.5 million a mile….double down on our ports of entry, because that’s where most of the illegal drugs come in, that’s where most people are surrendering.  We’ll use technology and address root causes in Mexico with a Marshall Plan for Central America.  You do those things, put that together, it’s a big package, but it’s also what is needed in order to make sure our country is safe.  https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/will-hurd-border-wall-myth-781204/

12-17-20  KELLY:  Why leave Congress now?

HURD:  Because there's opportunities to work on these issues that I care about in other ways.  You know, everybody always asks me - you know, when I decided to go to Texas A&M versus Stanford, they thought that was a crazy decision. And when I left the job at the CIA because I thought I could help the intelligence community a different way by running for Congress, folks questioned that.  And for me, the opportunity to continue working on these - what I consider generation-defining challenges in other ways is exciting. And I also believe these jobs weren't created to be in forever. You know, the fact that I've gotten more legislation signed into law in six years than most people do in a couple of decades - I'm pretty proud of my legislative accomplishments.  https://www.npr.org/2020/12/17/947693797/congressman-hurd-on-why-he-decided-to-leave-congress

And Hurd, who won reelection last fall by less than a thousand votes, is the only black Republican in the House.  The party has been hammered for its stark lack of diversity, especially in light of Democrats sending their most diverse caucus in history to Congress via the 2018 midterms.  But Hurd asserted in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that, contrary to popular belief, he would be better positioned to help elect a more diverse crop of Republicans from outside Congress than from within.

“I am interested in helping other candidates like me. I think I want to see a Republican Party that has more folks that look and sound and operate like I do,” he told anchor Major Garrett.  Asked if he might have sent a better message by staying and trying to get newcomers to join him, Hurd worked around the question.  “Everybody thinks the end all or be all is actually being in Congress.  The party is defined by the people that are in it, not necessarily the politicians.  And so this gives me the freedom and flexibility to operate in other parts of the country,” he said.  https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/04/will-hurd-congress-republicans-diversity-1446371
