Many small Silicon Valley companies and major American universities have research and development projects for Chinese surveillance companies.

5-29-19    Mass surveillance is natural to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and in keeping their longstanding belief in thought control.  Increasingly, published political thoughts must be in line with the ideology of the CCP Central Committee or, more precisely, in line with that of the paramount leader of the party: Xi Jinping….
  China weaponizes surveillance for repression and persecution, and the power of this weapon is tangible.  The surveillance apparatus has effectively silenced the voice of political and civil activists, as evidenced by the crackdown on rights defense lawyers. …In essence mass surveillance greatly lowers the cost of population control and repression.  It makes authoritarianism effective.
  It also is profitable.  Today over 30,000 Chinese surveillance companies have more than 1.6 million employees.  These firms are led by Huawei, Zhejiang Dahua and Hikvision, and they labor to perfect and export China’s mass surveillance system.  Their products such as Hikvision cameras are widely sold in the United States.
  Many small Silicon Valley companies and major American universities have research and development projects for Chinese surveillance companies.  For example iFlyTek, a Chinese company, recently launched a five-year partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to use voice recognition technology “to develop a pilot surveillance system that can automatically identify targeted voices in phone conversations.” Lamentably, other American tech giants also are involved in China’s mass surveillance system….
    We suggest such a US law might include six measures:
Prohibiting the export of hardware or software that can be used for surveillance, tracking and censorship to government end-users in China and, in particular, image processing chips used for surveillance camera and video equipment;
Denying foreign tax credits for any tax paid or accrued to the People’s Republic of China by American companies that participate in China’s surveillance system building and operation;
Imposing an import ban on surveillance products from China;
Banning financing of, investing in or research and development for Chinese surveillance companies by U.S. citizens, corporations or research institutions;
Delisting and de-registering Chinese surveillance companies and their investors to deny their access to capital markets in the United States; and
Redefining surveillance products and technologies to recognize and anticipate their potential for human rights abuses.   BY BRADLEY A. THAYER AND LIANCHAO HAN
  This surveillance allows the authorities to rank individuals by degree of “trustworthiness,” and to send to reeducation camps those deemed unreliable….surveillance and control go hand in hand. Control may grow as a consequence of surveillance….
  What the state, with its vast coercive powers, can do with information gathering suggests that a serious problem only exists when the state does it, or when it can seize information from private parties’ databases.  Information given to private parties is only secure up to a government or court order.  To the extent that justifications for the state exist, they revolve mainly around matters of security, which do require some surveillance.
4-28-19  China's know-how may underpin a tech-driven authoritarianism in the future, say critics.
  The squat grey building in Ecuador's capital commands a sweeping view of the city's sparkling sprawl, from the high-rises at the base of the Andean valley to the pastel neighbourhoods that spill up its mountainsides.
6-10-19   The following is a short list of the “coincidental” accomplishments on the Bilderberg scorecard:

* 1991 — Little-known Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton attended Bilderberg; he was elevated to the White House the following year;
* 1993 — Tony Blair, a minor opposition member of the Labour Party, attended Bilderberg before being boosted to become Britain’s prime minister;
* 1997 — First Lady Hillary Clinton attended Bilderberg, setting up her anointing for a future White House run;
* 1999 — Member nations of the EU were shackled with the euro currency, a major blow to their national sovereignty. Belgian industrialist and Bilderberg chair Etienne Davignon (also an EU commissioner) admitted in a 2009 interview that Bilderberg members played a key role in pushing adoption of the euro;
* 2005 — Angela Merkel’s attendance at Bilderberg was followed by promotion to chancellor of Germany and media promotion to de facto “leader of Europe” and “most powerful woman in the world”;
* 2008 — Newly minted Senator Barack Obama reportedly attended the Chantilly, Virginia, Bilderberg meeting before his meteoric rise. He has been evasive about his attendance, neither confirming nor denying the reports;
* 2009 — Virtually unknown Belgian politician Herman Van Rompuy attended Bilderberg and was then catapulted to president of the European Commission;
* 2011 — Goldman Sachs banker Mark Carney attended Bilderberg and was subsequently promoted to governor of the Bank of England;
* 2011 — Bilderberg pulled off a double coup in Italy, ousting Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and putting the two Bilderberg/Goldman Sachs alums into power: Mario Monti as the new Italian prime minister and Mario Draghi as head of the European Central Bank (ECB). It caused a huge row in Italy and throughout Europe known as “the bankers coup d’etat” or “the Bilderberg Mario Brothers coup.”
* 2014 — Political “outsider” Emmanuel Macron, a former Rothschild banker, attended Bilderberg, starting a quick political ascent that took him to the presidency of France in 2017;
* 2016 — Bilderberg members took central roles in “Project Fear I” and “Project Fear II”, the desperate propaganda effort to stop Brexit. (See also here and here.)
