Chris Park: don't say anything that would point to the U.S. government’s own role in gain-of-function research

1)  Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance obscures its Pentagon funding.  On its website EcoHealth Alliance states that “A copy of the EHA Grant Management Manual is available upon request to the EHA Chief Financial Officer at finance ( at ) ecohealthalliance.org”.  But an email to that address and numerous others, including Peter Daszak’s, requesting that Manual, as well as other financial information, was not returned. Neither were repeated voicemails.

Only buried under their “Privacy Policy,” under a section titled “EcoHealth Alliance Policy Regarding Conflict of Interest in Research,” does the EcoHealth Alliance concede it is the “recipient of various grant awards from federal agencies including the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the US Agency for International Development and the Department of Defense.”

Meticulous investigation of U.S. government databases reveals that Pentagon funding for the EcoHealth Alliance from 2013 to 2020, including contracts, grants and subcontracts, was just under $39 million.  Most, $34.6 million, was from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), which is a branch of the DOD which states it is tasked to “counter and deter weapons of mass destruction and improvised threat networks.”

3)  A small group within the State Department’s Arms Control, Verification and Compliance bureau had been studying the Institute for months.  The group had recently acquired classified intelligence suggesting that three WIV researchers conducting gain-of-function experiments on coronavirus samples had fallen ill in the autumn of 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak was known to have started. 

  As officials at the meeting discussed what they could share with the public, they were advised by

Christopher Park, the director of the State Department’s Biological Policy Staff in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, not to say anything that would point to the U.S. government’s own role in gain-of-function research, according to documentation of the meeting obtained by Vanity Fair.

  Park, who in 2017 had been involved in lifting a U.S. government moratorium on funding for gain-of-function research, was not the only official to warn the State Department investigators against digging in sensitive places.   Before the intelligence was released, however, Chris Ford, acting undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, tried to block AVC from releasing the information publicly over concerns doing so would “open a can of worms” and upset U.S.-China relations.

  People familiar with the dispute said Mr. Ford was reflecting concerns of pro-China State Department officials and those in the intelligence community who opposed the lab leak theory in favor of the now questionable theory the virus originated from animals.

Relations).  Was assistant Counsel to the Intelligence Oversight Board in 1996.  worked as national security advisor to Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine), chief investigative counsel for the Governmental Affairs Committee, and staff director and chief counsel of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. 7)  After WWII in Europe, Allen Dulles served for six months as the OSS Berlin station chief.  In 1947 Congress created the Central Intelligence Agency.  Dulles was closely involved with its development.  His translator at this time was Henry Kissinger, who worked for Army Intelligence.  Dulles' CIA Operation Paperclip assimilated Nazi scientists into the American establishment by obscuring their histories and short circuiting efforts to disclose their true identities to the public, over time stonewalling them into national acceptance.  The project was led by profiled officers in the United States Army, who were given too much political latitude without political experience. From 1943 to 1947 the humongous figure of Nazi Germany cadre, the brain drain, imported by this unit into USA, Canada and South America left no record “secreted” for the Germanic brotherhood to survive the age among their brethren in the western hemisphere….
